I CAN feel the funk

I can dig it! At first I thought we were in for a Royksopp style funky lounge track. Excellent flute and those low passed pads that fade in every now and then are gold. The lyrics are well done, suits the mood of the track beautifully. I thought they dropped back at just the right time later on, would have loved some serious glich on them though or some mad panning theatrics or other ear candy.
What made the track for me were the 303's. I mean, you can't really go wrong with such a beast and you've worked them in wonderfully in this one. Great in concert with the flute. The phat 303 jam before the fade-out was the best I think, love that crunchy tone! Well, gotta check out part 2....need ... 303....

This is some serious kicking tuneage. Keep it up!

Splagawaga responds:

this was another very quick track so i didnt attempt much glitch, just solid fills etc. glad u liked to 303 style acid lines :) although, i have to say it wasnt actually a 303 i used, it was the subtractor and malstrom in reason with lots of filter automation. even so, i agree :)...need ... 303...

Oooooh

Damn fine IDM here! Getting a definite BOC - even a slight Radiohead feel - from those snaky arps that ooze out at all the right places. Lots and lots of tasty variation in your percussion which is great and I'm impressed with a lot of the snare hits really working together with impulses in the track.
Glides along really well overall, a nice array of pads and eerie textures keeping things interesting. Nice, you've just dropped back the original synth, love a good bit of portamento.
Nice, stuttered drums here, yeah, KB was right, I want this to blow up in a big way! It was sounding like it was warming up to more modern version of Aphex Twins Bucephalus Bouncing Ball. But there were some absolutely wickedly programmed glitches and cool esoteric synth programming following, (love the suction sounds) which gave the track a really effective 'icing on the cake' feel.
Congratz, superb track!

P.S Thanks for your NUMEROUS reviews, if you didn't invent a program to tap into your id and automatically write reviews for you while you sleep, then I thank you humbly for your time and well constructed judgement! I guess I owe you about 30 reviews now or something! Well, it'll be a pleasure I predict.

Splagawaga responds:

thx for the extensive review to this one. this is definately one of my proudest recent tracks. nice to see some1 noticed the radiohead influence, wasnt really intended but i spent alot of my time growing up with radiohead.

from what u and KB said about the track doubling up im really regreting not attempting it. the more i think about it the more it seems to stop 'halfway'.

ofc, love the portamento, gives everything a bit more life :)

P.S. hehe i wish i had a program that would listen to peoples tunes, form my opinion then write a review, im not quite there yet. im gonna work my way through the rest of your tracks today. theyre alot longer than most of the loops on NG so the listening and review requires more thought. rescpect for the composition.

nice melody!

Good stuff man, these are some tasty chord progressions and the harmonies are very well done. The timing seemed a little bit robotic though and the velocities of all the notes, maybe some variation in them would get some more feeling into this one?
Anyway, keep it up! It would suit a flash probably...!

yoyo

You make music!

PERVOK responds:

LOLNO

great track!

Impressive work, without reading the description of the song, the music by itself gave that impression to me, that this was the start of an epic story. Thats always a sign that you're doing extremely well, when you can actually convey a message through music.
A really outstanding production through all its phases and always interesting. I was particularly impressed with the subtlety of the dynamics at the start with the flute, harp and horns and the expression they achieved when they swelled up.
Extremely well mixed strings and the transition into the more intense section was again excellent. Some very fine 'military' percussion (man, I'm a classical review newb), and the horns were brilliant.
Keep it up man, you're doing great!

DavidOrr responds:

Hey padman, thanks for the comments! I'm glad I was able to convey the message I was trying to.

Keep up the great work yourself.

Very good

Awesome trance track. The buildup and transitions are really commendable, I love those flanged parts.
The melody does the business in a big way.
Congratz!

short but sweet

Sounds great man, love those strings and keys. It's short but very very effective.
Those horns fit perfectly. I can imagine a melancholy piano solo happening afterwards, too bad its so short!
Keep it up!

Very noice.

Cool alternative track here. It gets a bit crazy with the distorted vocal at the end and that might hurt your download figures a bit! Nice to have that guitar strum play incessantly throughout that vocal part. Reminds me a bit of Radiohead.
Some very fine glitch and minimalism, the beatboxing was very unusual but sounded ace. Nice mix of the ethnic sounds and the violin, is that the crazy frog or something before the middle eastern vocal, and the african drums, maybe its an african vocal? Man, there's something here for the whole family.
Great synth stabs giving a kind of classical feeling to it, very nice with the eighth note pattern.
Well, once again you've impressed me with your inventiveness. Very enjoyable listen. The guitar buildup into the distorted vocal was killer by the way.

snoballandthmonyshot responds:

thanks the pad,
thought the end part might put some people off but quite frankly, i don't care - it amused me and works for the theme. glad u enjoyed the track tho:)

Awesome stuff!

Damn, that is one catchy riff, it sounds exactly like something that should be on 2006 Breaks annual or something. I love what you've done with the phased percussion. I thought the higher led sound that comes in at 1:30 was a little bit awkward and the track kind of lost its way a bit. But the sweep back in at 2:20 was genius!
If you tighten up the screws just a little more I reckon this one could be big.

KaiSun responds:

Thats a big compliment, thanks man. The riff is from aerosoul, I get caught up with old songs and find it hard to make new ones sometimes.
The high lead half way through was me running out of inspiration, Ill probly end up coming back to it again. Thanks for the kind words.

Sweet stuff

Very nice old school rave feeling. I'm diggin' the air-raid sirens, haven't heard that one for a while! Strong beat throughout and you have some awesome transitions, the 'kettle' buildup was out of this world, and I really loved the bass tones that came afterwards!
Very nice track man, congratz.

itsameyayo responds:

-Thanks man, the good and constructive reviews always mean a lot!
