Mm..tasty treats

Definitely a classy well produced track. I dug it and it kept me company during my web activities for several cycles. I like the ambient keys a lot, they're layered really nicely and gotta love the quasi animal cry sound. Sounds like a classic d'n'b sample to my ears, Ray Keith 'Terrorist'? (I may be completely wrong!!!) nicely mangled and altered to fit the track.
The track develops slowly but convincingly, KB might have a point with the percussion. I never know though, plenty of tracks use a consistent percussion part and it works fine. Music does my head in sometimes! Man...anyway, bottom line..this is another fine track!

P.S 'pon de replay' means, 'play my track again' in Jamaican. I learned that from Rihanna, you know, SOS and all that? :) She's right up there with the Sugababes in my country!

Splagawaga responds:

yo, the quasi animal noises were a drum machine> combfilter> delay> reverb. im often lazy with drums :) ho hum.

pon de replay indd!

Nice trippiness here. The drums are awesome and I love what you've done with the stutters and glitches. Nice crunchy hiphop loop to get the groove running strong.
That is a sweet pad sequence. Damn, I like that a lot. I reckon that would totally last the distance in a 4 minute ambient work or something.
Nice vocal mangling as well, you've pulled out a lot of stops here, and it was worth it. The percussion seems to change every single bar, respect for the attention to diversity!
Nice one, would have loved that awesome pad after the first vocal to really continue with the track a bit more.

LJCoffee responds:

Oooh - thanks!

I like that pad as well - really smooth ambient kind of thing happening there.

I'm working on a few others that are sort of in the same style - I think I may clip them all together and see if I can pull off something that's 5min+. Most of the tracks I submit here are just so short - I'd like to see how a much longer piece would do.

That reminds me - I think I need to review a few chunks of your music... Hmmm - I'll try to get that done a little later.

Thanks for the review !

sweet riddims my brother

Nice and bouncey. Playful track, you're really a man of extremes! The offbeat organ is a classic touch, and the pitch wavery goodness is cool. It lasts the distance well and there's not much there, but the groove is very enduring. Congratz, and err...pon de replay?

Splagawaga responds:

glad u like :) cant argue with a bit-o-bounce. yeh, the offbeat organ is a nice little gimmick to fall back on, always works a treat. that melody is also one of my favorite parts. thanks.

pon de replay? means?

Rinsed and hung out to dry

Ok, I load up your page...its not really surprising that this is the one I would want to listen to first!
Commendable effort going into making those breaks really dance. Is it the terrorist break? Well, hey, if it resembles the amen break, I'm gonna praise it to the heavens anyway, so objectivity goes out the window here.
I was a bit unhappy that there wasn't a big dirty bassline in the first half, I was thinking you were going SERIOUSLY old school on us, when your initial riff might have done the business as the cornerstone of a track. But damn do you ever pick it up later! That bit crushed bass is something else. Loving its dirt and grit.
Nice filtering and fx leading into the section where you unleash the bitcrushed bass fully. Yes, definitely awesome this section. Hey, they didn't have cool edits on their drums in the old-school! VERY nice glitches here, it sounds like that track of druqks at times. Really hits the mark. Man, I'm impressed. This is a hot track.
Give us a filthy Reece next time if you feel like it!

P.S Don't burn yourself out producing 2 tracks a day, you're operating at a mighty rate over there!

Splagawaga responds:

:D thanks for reviewing m8 appreciate it. yeh i love the bit crushed tone aswell. once uve used it once its hard to avoid going back to it.

i think the break is a fairly straight amen, slightly more clout then the old funk version but pretty much the same thing. the full name of this track is, skat munching terrorist breakstreet gangsta. (just to remind myself of the intentions the track).

p.s. im producing quite alot at the moment but all these tunes are just part of a back catalogue of tracks ive made over the last few years. this one is about 2/3 yrs old i think.

Awesome

Man, I wrote a review for this one yesterday, but when I hit submit, I learned I had been disconnected and couldnt get it back!$*^$
So, basically, I just wanted to say that I literally loved this one, and its great to hear such awesome retro goodness. It's actually quite Daft Punky when those keys so it still sounds pretty fresh and up there with the current styles. Very funky slides on the bass which gels really well with the track.
Vocals are well done again and flow wonderfully with the track.
The track is simple, but you just can't fight that kind of groove. So massive respect man.

nightvision responds:

Awesome! Somebody liked it. I began to think that nobody was gonna appreciate this song, I thought the groove (especially the bassline) was so awesome.

Thanks for your continued reviews and support dj_padman1, I owe you bigtime buddy.

Yo Mr Kaisun

Man, you've just made another excellent breaks track. The bass in this one is sure to go down well in a club. My room is seriously rattling! I really enjoy the electro feel that you do so well. You've got a great feel of building in this one, and it really hits the spot when you give us that low punchy low-passed bass. Some of those white noise sounding sweepy effects at the transitions were a little bit intense in the buildup. Nice use of vocal samples, sounds just right. Excellent with the little triplet pair and the 'hoo-hah'!
Well, overall, a great piece, and thanks to you my roofs plasterwork is now decorating the carpet.
Hope to see you around soon.

KaiSun responds:

thanks man, yeah this ones a bit bottom heavy, been listening to a lot of that lately. anticipating your next release. thanks for your time again

Top work

Really nice track here. The chord progression really flows along beautifully. I love that lead synth with the cool slide down part! Excellent pads. I agree that it would work well in menus, but not only that, it would also suit side-scrollers i reckon...possibly a space level? I reckon the synths would suit.
Keep up the great work!

Oh yeah, I forgot the bass! Rockin, bubbles along really well and co-operates nicely in the chord progression. :) One thing I think would be cool would be some mad fx every now and then, you've got some cool transitions though, that cymbal splash into the main part was well put together.

nightvision responds:

Glad you liked this dj_padman1, though I forgot to specify that this was a loop, that still didnt seem to affect your opinion. Thanks for the review buddy.

Sounds great

Enjoyable from start to finish. You sure do love tinkering with percussion, and this is is brimming with exciting ideas. The initial bass was extremely good and easily lasted the distance. Cool initial eerie synths, kind of reminding me of Autechre, handing the rains over to the vocals nicely. Some excellent snare stutters, very nice!
Not the biggest fan of the bass/lead at this time though. I like the low passed bass a lot more.
Ending was a bit abrupt! Would have loved some epic pads coming in over the top for a resolution.
Crank out more!

Splagawaga responds:

hey! :D
thanks for the reviews m8, nice to wake up to 4 good long breakdowns. i agree about the ending just kinda stopping, this was one of those bit part tracks i never went back to, sadly.

Those vocals were a bit of an after thought really, hence all the filtering and reverb :) seems to work ok tho

wwweeeee

Stellar (artois?)

Keeping the funk alive. Love those 303's even more than the conclusion of part 1! Would really love to hear you crank out some 180bpm acid sometime. Ped gets into gear there too! KB has been known to descend into the junglist/acid domain.
You've got some really cool nu-breaksy morphing synth action in there. Nice automation. The swooping pad sounds ace, well done with the flutter at the end.
Nice contrast with the bubbling acid and the original flute and vocal brought back to great effect. Very nice interlude here, on repeated listen it does seem to drag out a little bit, but thats some really nice beatboxing that takes over the track for a pretty genius concluding statement! Love it.

Splagawaga responds:

:D nice to see u enjoyed part2 aswell. its a real bitch i had to split this sucker in half. ill have to give the 180 aphexacid a crack it is without a doubt one of my favorite styles of music. but i dunno how i can live up to my own expectations from drukqs and 2remixs. they are so damn good that i always end up refering back to it.

p.s. like that u see? yeh i get idea...

I CAN feel the funk

I can dig it! At first I thought we were in for a Royksopp style funky lounge track. Excellent flute and those low passed pads that fade in every now and then are gold. The lyrics are well done, suits the mood of the track beautifully. I thought they dropped back at just the right time later on, would have loved some serious glich on them though or some mad panning theatrics or other ear candy.
What made the track for me were the 303's. I mean, you can't really go wrong with such a beast and you've worked them in wonderfully in this one. Great in concert with the flute. The phat 303 jam before the fade-out was the best I think, love that crunchy tone! Well, gotta check out part 2....need ... 303....

This is some serious kicking tuneage. Keep it up!

Splagawaga responds:

this was another very quick track so i didnt attempt much glitch, just solid fills etc. glad u liked to 303 style acid lines :) although, i have to say it wasnt actually a 303 i used, it was the subtractor and malstrom in reason with lots of filter automation. even so, i agree :)...need ... 303...
