OOoh

Nice song, reminds me a bit of Kraftwerk.

I liked the bassline. And the drum programming was solid, although some of those kick fills should be built up a bit more, I wouldn't play four bars of 16th note kicks if I was you.

Add some extra snare hits and fills, and the vocal is catchy but too quiet and maybe some more generous reverb would be an option?

Keep at it.

Good effort

You know, I like this one a lot.

Just one thing though, can you please replace the short guitar stabs with a TB-303 sound or equivalent, and please lose the sustained dirty guitar note that comes near the start of every second bar. Make it a Juno or something.

Your percussion and kicks are great, you don't do your song justice with the sounds you're choosing. Maybe you have a background as a rocker or something but the song is crying out for some classic electronic sounds.

Other than that, keep up the great work.

Tech-Advance responds:

thanks for the review dude, ill keep that in mind next time

break ya neck!

This was a very enjoyable listen.

The riffs were really catchy and the structure of the song was great. It sounds like there's quite a bit of automation going on of those synths. I like!

The heavy breaks that start about halfway through are really great. It was interesting how the bass gradually consumed the percussion and snare before that.
Just one thing, that falling bass progression at that time wore a little thin, but the one after rocked, during the chord progression when you dropped the beat.
I was a bit dissapointed when the heavy beat left but the more chilled bit that followed was cool.

I listened to it several times. Keep up the great work!

BTW, there's a lot of variety in this song, I reckon you could make a pretty slammin breaks track just around the first loop. But I'm impressed with how you introduced everything else in the track. Must have taken ages!

Also, it sounds like you've tamed your mixing. I didn't hear one single digital clip.

Nice

It sounds like it would go well as the backing music for Leisure Suit Larry.

I would have liked to see some other types of notes apart from short, staccato ones.

Bring on some long, sustained sounds to provide some additional interest and some extra drum parts and fills to keep interest up.

SMPTank responds:

No problem I will work to make that song better the midi program im using doesn;t have much power the notes are alittle plane I will probably remix it or soemthing add the other half of the song ext I'll keep making these can only get better. thanks for the criticisms.

great!

What an intro! Opening the filter cut-off on that bass really hit the spot and the voices were very well integrated.

In the second half you introduce a hand-clap that I think could stand to be louder. Also, maybe you're going for a minimalist song but I think some kind of hi-hat is necessary.

The synth part that is introduced later is good, but I would make the sound bigger at the end and don't be afraid to drench it with reverb. Techno is about boldness and a kind of 'crudeness' so do whatever it takes to get your message across!

Also, bring back the voices at the finale.

All in all, nice effort. Its a catchy song.

Jimbobsthebest responds:

Thank you very much for a kind and constructive review. I'll deffinatly try some sort of hi-hat pattern in there and see how it sounds. I may have to upload a version 2 song with some improvements. I think your totally right, it does need more towards the end so i'll try and add some extra samples or something. It's always hard when listening to something over and over whilst working on it to sit back with fresh ears, so thanks for a great review.

Nice Production

The flow of this song is very professional. Thats the first thing that came to mind. All the builds and drops in the right places.

Everything is really clear relative to everything else and the bass that kicks in is totally awesome. The incidental noises and the reversed kind of fx before the transitions is great.

I would have liked the vocal sample to get processed and messed around with a bit more as the track progressed, and maybe the beat could have been made a bit more busy when the main bass drops in. To make the drop more pronounced, you can put that cymbal on every 1/8th note instead of every 1/4 note to get it humming along even more energetically.

Also, its a bit short, but keep up the good work!

Para-Noid responds:

i wisg i did a lot more of these

Nice

Pretty solid and the beat is nice.

The synth parts seemed to be a little 'straight' and if you made the loops a little bit more unsymmetrical than it could be more interesting.

I'm thinking you should crank the bass a little more or add another bass part even if its just a little acid squelch at the start of every 4 bars of something, maybe with some delay. Just seemed to lack a bit of low-end.

The drum fills were nice and I can see some potential, so keep working on it. But just about the drum fills, in a song it indicates that something bigger is about to happen, so don't disappoint your audience, make sure the snare roll leads into something bigger and better!

Great song!

This is a very sophisticated techno song. It was full of variety and always interesting.

The chord progressions were really top notch, and how it switched after the first strings came in was awesome, became more sombre and the tasty synced portamento sound really hit the spot. Make it yourself? When it plays again towards the end it sounds like a TB-303 to my limited knowledge.

All the elements really co-operated well and the strings added something extra. Of course, being a DJRunaway production the transitions and fills were solid and unique.

Keep it up. I want to see 6 pages of songs soon.

DJRunaway responds:

Haha man, thanks alot for the flattering review :) The chord progression in the beginning (Arp: C-G-F; downwards... Bass: F-D-D#... Polyphone shit aye? ;) was one that that made me doubtfull in the beginning, but after listenin to it for a while, I cathed the flow :) The sombre part (Lead: F-C#-F-F#... Bass: F-A-C#-A#-C#) was sometihng I was thrilled about in the beginnen and which I though was kinda empty when I re-listened the song. I was kinda insure about that part, but your review made my day good man :) The end isn't a TB-303, but you're pretty close...It's a TS-404 :) The strings... Well, I just love strings ;) My dream is to become a producer/componist mixture (Like a Ferry Corsten/Howard Shore kinda person ;) so I try to do my best on the orchestra ;) Anyway, thanks for the review man, and the 6th page will be there soon anough :)

Peace,
Thanks,
Greetz,

Great song

Very impressive classic techno. The thick analogue sounds really appealed and the progressions were very catchy and could definately stand up to repetition.

The mix was clear and punchy too.

Anth0n responds:

Wasn't expecting a review so fast lol, I submitted like 5 minutes ago and usually my stuff gets no reviews at all. Well, thanks for the great feedback :)
